Eastern Zone

The Spring Meeting of the Eastern Zone is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th at the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Many other great events will be held on the same weekend as part of the International Swimming Hall of Fame Honoree Festival.
 
The 2010 ISHOF Honoree Festival is a multi-day celebration of the enshrinement of the newest class to be inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.  The Festival will be held in Fort Lauderdale, May 6 - 9, 2010 and includes a number of special public events featuring the Enshrinement Ceremony on Saturday evening, May 8, 2010.  Other major public events include the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix, May 6 - May 9; the Paragon Awards on Friday evening, May 7; and the Hall of Fame Open Water swim on Sunday morning, May 9th.
 
A special rate of $119.00 (plus 11% tax) is available at Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel for those attending the Spring Meeting of the Eastern Zone.  The hotel is located across the street from the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center and the International Swimming Hall of Fame and of course just 100 yards from the beaches of Fort Lauderdale:

    NEW HOTEL RESERVATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 15th: Eastern Zone members will enjoy the same rate for arrival up to 3 days earlier or a departure up to three days following the Eastern Zone meeting.  Please mention the Eastern Zone Meeting when making reservations directly with the hotel at 954-524-8733   Please be sure to book your hotel rooms prior to April 15th.
     
    Courtyard by Marriott Hotel amenities includes free wireless Internet in lobby and in the guest rooms, access to the hotel's fitness center, an outside pool and patio bar and complimentary business center. There is a charge for parking of $25 per night and there is a parking lot adjacent to the hotel that is sometimes cheaper and may offer in-out and overnight parking.  A taxi from the Fort Lauderdale airport takes less than 15 minutes and is approximately $25 to $30 each way.

    PARAGON AWARDS
    SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, MAY 7th
     
    Eastern Zone meeting participants are encouraged to arrive in time for a 6:30 PM reception and exhibit at the International Swimming Hall of Fame followed by the PARAGON AWARDS presentation which will begin at approximately 7:30 pm.  Registration for the Spring Eastern Zone Meeting will permit you complimentary access to the reception and to the PARAGON AWARDS presentation!
     
    The International Swimming Hall of Fame announced that Paragon Aquatics has renewed its sponsorship of the prestigious Paragon Awards, which have been presented annually by ISHOF and Paragon since 1996. The Paragon Awards recognize outstanding contributions to Swimming in the fields of Competitive Swimming, Water Polo, Competitive Diving, Aquatic Safety, Synchronized Swimming and Recreational Swimming.  The 2010 Paragon Awards will be presented on Friday, May 7th, at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Registration for the Spring Eastern Zone Meeting will permit you complimentary access to the reception and to the PARAGON AWARDS presentation!
     
    Tickets for guests and all others are $75.00 and includes a reception and sports photography exhibit beginning at 6:30 pm.

    Eastern Zone Coach to be Inducted in Class of 2010

    FORT LAUDERDALE -- Located on Fort Lauderdale's magnificent beachfront since 1965, the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) today announced the Honoree Induction Class of 2010.  The 2010 Enshrinement will mark the organization's 46th year of honoring the greatest names in the history of the sports of swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. =E2=80=9CWith honorees from the USA, Australia, Germany, Russia, Hungary, the Philippines and Romania, the Class of 2010 is as impressive and as internationally diverse as any in the history of ISHOF,=E2=80=9D said Bob Duenkel, ISHOF's staff liaison to the selection committee consisting of over 150 international aquatic experts.


    Members of the Class of 2010 who will be inducted and enshrined in Fort Lauderdale, include Honor Swimmers Brooke Bennett (USA), Petria Thomas (Australia) and Franziska Van Almsick (Germany); Honor Synchronized Swimmer, Maria Kisseleva (Russia); Honor Open Water Swimmer, Paul Asmuth (USA); Honor Swimming Coaches, Murray Stephens (USA) and Tamas Szechy (Hungary); Honor Pioneer Diver, Larry Griswold (USA); Honor Pioneer Swimmer, Teofilo Yldefonso (Philippines); and, Honor Contributor, Cornel Marculescu (Romania).

    Murray Stephens (USA)

    Murray hails from the Eastern Zone and was our Eastern Zone Director


    Coach Murray Stephen trained US Olympic swimmers for over 36 years at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.  Murray was the club founder and owner of one of the first successful private, coach-owned facilities in the nation. Personal coach to three swimmers winning five Olympic gold, one Olympic silver and one Olympic bronze medals. As head coach, he has mentored NBAC coaches to develop 12 other Olympians who have won 19 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals, including medals won by the greatest Olympian in history:  Michael Phelps. Under Murray's leadership, NBAC has became one of the finest Olympic development clubs of the modern era.
